Once again failure. Plus I had a pair completely disappear near to be seen again.
I got another breeding pair to see if it was the pairs or my enviroment.
This is a proven breeding pair so it will be interesting to see if I get any young especially as we approach winter.
Like last time fingers crossed.

I ask this as many of my birds are breeding despite the on set of cold weather.
Although many of my birds do breed at this stage of the season the vigour is surprising.

Not sure about everyone else but I had some horrible weather lately.
Luckily not much damage though.
I did loose a few young Gouldians and King quail.
Hoping everyone else is fairing well and breeding lots.

I bought a pair of cuban finches on Sunday at a local bird sale. Went out this morning to check and feed my birds there they were building a nest. I’m not sure but I think 3 days is even a personal best for me as to how quick new birds settle in to breed. I would now hope that this is a good omen to the future of this pairs breeding success for me. Luckily I (try) never count my chickens before they hatch. No pun intended.

These fizzled again. Although it has got warmer so this may well help as mentioned in a recent comment. Both pairs have got nests now so the fingers are crossed. I have a feeling that there is to much going on at my place for these some what timid birds. I guess we will see in the next few weeks.

I’m still waiting to see if I can get my two pairs of Tri-coloured Parrot Finches to finally bring some young out of a nest. They are both on nests and I’ve learnt not to disturb their nest in anyway. I know that they are both fertile as offspring have been produced before only to die within a week of hatching. This may well have been simply due to live food not being made available at this time of need. I had a horror run with live food production for about 6 months. Now all is good and the site of these babies will be very welcomed indeed.

I noticed today that a second female in an opposing aviary has constructed a nest and is sitting on eggs. It may have something to do with the fact I just changed the brush in all aviaries. All aviaries now seem to have orangre-breated waxbills breeding in them now which is a good omen for the next few months.

4Â fledgling Orange-breasted Waxbills graced aviary 3 today very cute indeed. Looks as though many of my birds are ready to breed already. I had a feeling that it would be delayed due to the cold weather we’ve been having……guess not.

I finally got around to getting some beautiful Cape (Masked) Doves today via a swap for a few finches. These are nice and quiet and I think they compliment the aviaries with their presence. One pair is younger and may therefore take longer to breed however the older pair should hopefully settle nice and quickly.
